What is Lawn Game Day?
We’re excited to announce Lawn Game Day, our new community event intended to bring people together for fun outside activities. With the current COVID pandemic going on, it’s increasingly hard to find social activities that can be done in a safe manner. Since most yard games are played with safe distances between players and can be played outside, it makes for a perfect activity.
When and Where
Our very first Lawn Game Day will be held Sunday, November 1, 2020, from 1 pm to 3 pm and will be at Ramsey Park. We chose Ramsey Park since it’s pretty central and because of my close connection to the park. As anyone who knows me will tell you I always talk about the fun, quirky game I play called Field Mojo, which we play at Ramsey (well, we did before COVID). We may decide to use other parks around Austin for future Lawn Game Days.
What to Expect
We plan to bring a large selection of yard games, including cornhole, giant Jenga, giant Connect four, ladder golf, Bocce ball, ring toss, yard dice, plus one of my new favorites, Kubb. We also plan on bringing out a few of our new mini golf holes as well.
All of the lawn games will be set up and spread out for players to choose which games they want to play. We’ll also be teaching people how to play games if they are new to them. Once you’ve got the hang of one, you can move on and try a different game!
Safety
We want to provide a safe playing environment for everyone and we’ll be spreading all of the lawn games out as much as possible to give everyone ample room to maintain spatial distancing. We’ll also have plenty of disinfectant wipes so people can clean the yard games between use. We also recommend players wear their masks if they are anywhere close to other people.
Structure
For our first Lawn Game Day, we won’t have any structure or planned activities, just casual play and socializing with hopefully beautiful Texas fall weather. For future events, we’ll have some fun activities planned for each game day so stay tuned.
What to bring
We’re bringing all of the yard games so you just need to bring yourself, water, and of course, your mask!
